I am sitting in the same old room
listening
To the same old records
Once again I can’t handle what I’ve seen
There are children sitting next to each other
sad smiles covering up their faces
and they aren’t allowed to move for 12 hours a day
but that one guy with the gun
he’s there
to take care about safety they say
but in reality you know what he’ll do
if one steps out of line
he says
it’s okay and they have to do this
otherwise their families would starve
and die
the camera turns and I see the dust
that the bullets are blowing up
on their way into the flesh of these people
they have their arms raised up high
and hold these signs in their hands
I can’t read them but I know what they’re saying
// I will carry the truth. //
“We won’t forget all the blood and the crime that we have seen”
“It won't happen again. Nevermore will it be our fault”
But he’s wearing his suit and his broad grin overlaps the paper behind his back
It’s green and the numbers I see
Substantiate my suspicion
I stand up make the few steps to the bathroom
And as the blue smoke swirls in front of my eyes
A lonely tear drips down my face

Toronto band Respire deliver a post-hardcore tour de force on the largest scale possible, orchestrally rich and incessantly uncompromising. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 6, 2021
On their debut record, the London hardcore upstarts cross-up mosh-ready fare with melancholic ambient passages, weeping guitars, and virtuosic vocal harmonies, but its romantic veneer is much more complicated than it seems. Bandcamp Album of the Day Jan 30, 2019
